FRC Week 3 Update

This week there has been a lot of focus on the robot's steel frame and its electric components. The motor control interface is now completely wired up, with new firmware flashed to the motor controllers, ready to be built into the robot and programmed. The steel frame has been built and partially welded, with the initial parts of the grabber and a mechanism to deploy the minibot. Based on our initial build of the minibot we've tried several different but similar build configurations for it this week, in hope of improving its grip on the tower pole and the speed it can climb it.

Robot Steel Frame Frame Alternative Angle

Earlier in the week the programming team decided to use Java for this years competition, and have setup the development environment for this. Over the weekend a large amount of part sorting has taken place to ensure the process of placing all the components into the robot's frame can be done efficiently. Our updated website is now also in a largely content complete state, with only minor visual tweaks plus the photos and videos sections left to complete. We hope to have the site complete over the next week or two ready for submission for the Website Award. We would also like to welcome on board a new sponsor, Marshall Aerospace, who will be coming to the college in February to present the team with a cheque.
